Job Check Step

The Check channels step checks channels at each site against the checks ticked on the step, and fails the site when any check fails. Every check is instant: it reads the status the engine already keeps for each channel and never searches the message tables. For example, a job can import, restart, wait a short time, and then check that the restarted channels run their new version and have not errored.

Checks

Tick one or more checks under Checks in the Add Step or Edit Step dialog.

Each Channel Is Running

Passes when the channel is running. A stopped, paused, errored or stopping channel fails it.

Each Channel Runs Its Saved Version

Passes when the version the channel is running is the version saved in the database. A running channel that the import changed fails it until it is restarted.

No Channel Has Errored Since the Earlier Step Started

Passes when the channel's last error is older than the start of the step chosen in Since Step.

No Error Queue Is Larger Than Before the First Step

Passes when the channel's error queue holds no more messages than it did before the first step ran at that site. Every step sent to a site returns the error-queue count of each channel in a zone the preparer may view there, read before the step acts, and the Hub keeps the counts from the site's first step as the baseline. A channel the baseline does not include, such as one the import created, fails this check.

Each Channel Has Received a Message Since the Earlier Step Finished

Passes when the channel received a message after the step chosen in Since Step finished.

Since Step

The two "since" checks count from an earlier step in the list: No Channel Has Errored Since the Earlier Step Started from that step's start, and Each Channel Has Received a Message Since the Earlier Step Finished from its finish. Choose the step in Since Step, which lists only the earlier steps that are sent to the sites; a wait or a checkpoint cannot be chosen.

Both times come from the site's own record of when it started and finished that step, not from the Hub's clock. When the site has no record of the chosen step, both "since" checks fail.

Which Channels Are Checked

By default, the step checks the channels the job's import affected at that site. It can name its channels instead, in Channels, one zone/channel per line. See Job Steps.

The preparer's Hub user needs at least view rights in a channel's zone at the site. A channel in a zone the user may not view fails its checks, and so does a disabled channel. A channel the step names that is not at the site fails the step.

On a Clustered Site

The step runs on the node of the site that holds its connection to the Hub, and reads each channel's status as that node sees it.
