Identifying a Site in Its Console

A site's console reached through the Hub shows which site it belongs to, so a technician with several sites open can tell their browser tabs apart. The console shows the site's Display Name after a server icon in the site's Color, and its browser tab carries the color too. Both are set on the Site tab of the Site Details dialog.

Where the Display Name Appears

  • Home page header: the Display Name replaces the edition text (for example Enterprise Edition) between the logo and the version information, after an outlined server icon in the site's color.
  • Site box: the Display Name shows in its own box under the message counts at the bottom of the navigation panel, after a solid server icon in the site's color, as on the Sites Dashboard.
  • Login and lock windows: the Display Name replaces the edition text up the left side of the window.
  • Browser tab: the tab title reads <Display Name> - QIE, so a narrowed tab still starts with the site's name.

The name keeps the size of the text it replaces when it fits. A longer name is drawn smaller until it fits, and below a minimum size it wraps onto further lines. In the header the icon shrinks with the name. Hovering over the name shows all of it.

The name and icon appear only when the console is reached through the Hub. A browser that connects to the site directly sees the console as before. The site reads the name and color only from requests its own Hub connection delivers, so a request sent straight to the site cannot set them.

Note

The Display Name and its icon need both the Hub and the site to run a QIE release that includes them. A site on an earlier release shows its console as before.

Favicon Color

The Hub paints the browser-tab icon (favicon) of the site's console in the site's Color, so tabs for different sites differ at a glance. A site whose color is red keeps the standard icon. The Σ on the icon stays white on blue and purple, and turns dark on aqua, orange, yellow and green, where it reads better.

The Hub serves the colored icon itself, so it appears whatever QIE release the site runs. A tab that is already open may keep its old icon after a color change until its page is loaded again.
