Automated Transitions of Care

Most EHR systems support the ability to refer a patient from one provider to another and today’s EHR systems almost universally support connectivity to health information service providers (HISPs), but the process of sending the referral order along with the patient’s summary of care or C-CDA record from the referring provider to the specialist is often a manual process. With QIE’s ability to easily integrate with HISPs, this process can often be completely automated, saving time and resources.

Bi-Directional Data Exchange with Local Hospitals

Connecting to and exchanging patient care information with local hospitals can be critical in providing quality patient care. With QIE’s native support for data formats such as FHIR® and CDA®, as well as native support for IHE protocols like XCA, XCPD, PIX, PDQ, connecting to and exchanging data with a local hospital system is easy to do. Our customers have been successful at implementing bi-directional data exchange interfaces with many different hospital information systems (HIS) including Epic, Cerner, McKesson, Meditech and more.

Health Information Exchange (HIE) Networks

Connecting medical communities together via health information exchange networks has been instrumental in breaking down the silos of patient data and ensuring care givers have access to critical patient information when and where they need it. Qvera customers have connected to hundreds of registries across dozens of HIE platforms. While sending patient data to the HIE benefits others in the medical community, a clinic only benefits if they have the ability to retrieve and reconcile data from the HIE into their own EHR system. With QIE’s forms module, clinics have the ability to query the HIE in realtime for patient information and selectively import that data into the EHR. QIE also supports a data “push” model, where patient information is proactively pushed from the HIE into the EHR via QIE.

Lab Orders and Results

Many clinics and medical groups use QIE to help automate the process of validating and submitting lab orders, whether it be to a reference lab, specialty lab, hospital lab, or even an in-house lab. With QIE’s extensive support for SOAP and REST based web services, making calls to validate orders before submission becomes trivial and easy to manage. Results, coming back from the lab, can be automatically imported into the EMR, including the ability to flag the original order as complete upon receipt of the results.

Patient Portal Integration

With meaningful use requirements, the ability to provide clinical data to patients via a patient portal has become a necessity. Today, most EHR applications ship with the ability to integrate with at least one patient portal, but often clinics need integration with multiple patient portals. Using QIE, these EHR systems can easily be integrated to any patient portal; including the ability to exchange HL7® demographics (ADT messages), scheduling data (SCH messages), billing data (DFT messages), lab results (ORU messages), consolidated continuity of care (C-CDA) records, as well as fast healthcare information resources (FHIR).

State Immunization Registries

Clinics in virtually every state rely on QIE to submit immunization administration data to their state immunization registry. Data format, content and communication protocols vary widely from one registry to the next, but with QIE’s built-in support for all legacy and emerging interoperability formats and standards, our customers can easily accommodate any and all registry requirements. With QIE’s forms module, our customers can also take advantage of registries which support bi-directional exchange, and reconcile immunization administration data from the registry directly into their EHR system.

Syndromic Surveillance Reporting

The demand for syndromic surveillance reporting is increasing as more and more public health agencies implement IT systems capable of collecting this data electronically. Requirements often vary from one agency to the next with regards to the data being reported, the format requested by the agency and the communication protocol implemented for data submission. QIE’s open and extensive platform accommodates all of these requirements and allows our customers to easily connect to their public health agency for syndromic surveillance reporting.

Replacing Home-Grown and Legacy Interface Engines

Because of QIE’s intuitive and easy to use visual technology, many clinics (especially smaller clinics) are able to implement and manage their interoperability initiatives on their own, without the need to hire 3rd party consultants. Because QIE removes the complexities normally associated with interface configuration, it allows even non-technical users to build, configure and manage their interfaces. With QIE, users can do in minutes, what normally takes hours with other interface engines.
