MCP Help and Code Wizard Tools

The MCP server gives a model the same help documentation and Code Wizard reference that QIE ships, so it can learn how QIE works before it reads or changes a channel. Every signed-in user can use them in every scope, because they hold no customer data.

Help pages as resources

Every help page is an MCP resource at qie://help/<name>, where the name is the page's path under the help site with underscores for slashes, such as qie://help/scripting_node-paths-hl7.md. Each resource is the page's Markdown, opening with the help-site address it is published at, so a model can cite a page the reader can open.

The help pages are not in the list of resources a client sees, because there are more than a thousand of them and a client that lists resources would take every entry into the model's context. The list holds the Code Wizard reference and the guides; a help page is read by its name through the qie://help/{name} template, and search_help returns each page's address. MCP clients show resources in their own way. In Claude Code, for example, a resource is referenced as @<server name>:<address>, such as @qie:qie://help/scripting_node-paths-hl7.md.

search_help

search_help finds the help pages that contain every word of a query, best matches first. A word in a page's title counts for more than a word in its body. Each match returns the page's name, its qie://help address, its title, its help-site address and a short snippet around its first match. At most limit matches come back, 10 by default and never more than the Max Page Size on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) page; the result also says how many pages matched.

Words are matched as written, ignoring case, so qie.getNode finds that exact text rather than treating the dot as a pattern.

get_code_wizard_reference

get_code_wizard_reference returns entries of the Code Wizard reference: the functions scripts can call, with their parameters, return values and examples, and the Java options. A call can narrow the entries by:

Filter Argument
The object a function belongs to, such as qie or message object
Functions or Java options kind: function or javaOption
Words in an entry's title, object, method, option name or description query

Entries come back 20 at a time by default, in the order the Code Wizard lists them. When there are more, the result carries nextCursor; pass it back as cursor, with the same filters, for the next page.

The whole reference is also the qie://code-wizard/reference resource, as one JSON document.

What is recorded

Each call to search_help or get_code_wizard_reference is recorded in the MCP audit log like any tool call. Reading a resource writes a RESOURCE_READ entry that names the resource, and using a prompt writes a PROMPT_USED entry that names the prompt; neither holds the text. See MCP Audit Log.
