Error: Unable to request a license from within QIE.

Question

While attempting to get a license in QIE, I am getting one of the following error messages:

"Unable to contact qvera.com to retrieve your license. Please check your network configuration (including proxy settings) and try again. If the problem persists, contact Qvera support."

or

"Unable to connect to license server. Please call Qvera support."

Starting with the 5.23.1 release of QIE, this is caused when QIE cannot access qvera.com or qiecheckin.com on port 443 or port 80.  QIE will attempt to connect to the license service using the following endpoints in this order:
1) https://qvera.com/
2) http://qvera.com/
3) https://qiecheckin.com/
4) http://qiecheckin.com/

One of the following steps will usually resolve this issue:

1. The firewall needs to be configured to allow the QIE service to access qvera.com and qiecheckin.com on port 443 or port 80.  The default is port 443.  This must be done by someone who has administrative rights to the firewall.

2. You need to use a proxy to access web addresses from the QIE service. Use the KB below to configure QIE to use the proxy: https://www.qvera.com/kb/index.php/57/how-do-you-configure-qie-to-work-with-a-proxy
