We have observed that the auto updater for Java can rip the rug out from underneath QIE. Our recommendation is to turn off the Java auto updater. You can also sign up for update notifications from Oracle (https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/securityemail-090378.html).

You can then schedule some down time to update Java when fewer users are using the system.

1. Download the latest Java

2. Point QIE to the new Java version in the QIE Service Manager.

3. Stop QIE from the QIE Service Manager.

4. Start QIE.

The users are down for as long as it takes QIE to restart (a few minutes, maybe).
