Founder and CEO
Sam founded Qvera in 2008, building on his experience developing healthcare software and leading healthcare technology businesses. Before Qvera, he founded MedShape, which developed document-management and HL7 interface software for medical practices. Following MedShape’s acquisition by Kryptiq in 2003, he served as a senior executive, contributing to product direction, development, and customer growth.
CTO
Ron joined Qvera in 2008 after serving as Vice President of Development at MountainView Software. His background combines software engineering, development leadership, and participation in healthcare interoperability standards. He has contributed to HL7 working groups and FHIR interoperability events and earned the HL7 FHIR Proficient credential in 2018. Ron holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Brigham Young University.
VP Sales
Mike brings experience in healthcare technology sales spanning EHR systems, integrated applications, and interoperability software. Before Qvera, he led channel sales at Kryptiq, helping expand its relationship with GE Healthcare into a business spanning multiple products and platforms. His earlier roles included sales at MedShape and MedicaLogic. Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and management from the University of Oregon.
Director of Software Engineering
Ben joined Qvera in 2013 with a background in software development, IT leadership, and customer support operations. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer at CUProdigy (now Blossom), overseeing software development and customer support teams. As Vice President of Information Technologies at Weber State Credit Union, he directed a core software conversion and infrastructure upgrade. He began his software development career in 1999.
Sam Shapiro founded MedShape, which developed the RosettaStone Interface Engine, a predecessor to QIE.
Sam founded Qvera to develop healthcare interoperability software. The name Qvera combines ‘Q’ for quality with ‘vera’ for true, reflecting the idea of ‘true quality.’
Qvera repurchased the intellectual property for the original RosettaStone Interface Engine and began developing the next-generation platform that became QIE.
Ron Shapiro joined the IHE USA Implementation Committee.
Ron became co-chair of HL7 International’s Modeling and Methodology workgroup. That year, Black Book Research ranked Qvera the most disruptive interoperability company and the fifth most disruptive healthcare IT company overall.
Qvera completed its SOC 2 Type 1 attestation in June and received its first SOC 2 Type 2 report in December.
Qvera’s second SOC 2 Type 2 report was dated November 24, 2025, continuing its history of independent examination of its controls.
