Qvera Joins Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) CPC+ Initiative

Qvera is partnering the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in a new initiative called Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) for private healthcare practices. CPC+ is a five-year initiative – with Phase 1 launched in January 2017 – building an advanced payment model (APM) for physicians as a result of the original CPC lessons learned.

Advanced payment models (APMs) are one of two paths for physicians to get paid for their work under new MACRA rules. To learn more about MACRA read our MACRA blog series.

According to the American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP), “[CPC+] provides primary care practices with up-front and improved payment along with technical assistance.”

The CPC+ initiative is meant to strengthen primary care in America. It’s also seen as critical to promoting better health and driving health care costs down – which is an essential value Qvera promotes in our healthcare interoperability work. In a recent article describing the importance of the initiative, Healthcare Informatics writes:

Interoperability, communications among clinicians and patient care organizations, and refining workflows in order to perform the intensive data collection, measurement, and data reporting underpinning this program, remain huge challenges.

By partnering with participating primary care practices, we hope to help facilitate primary care physicians’ abilities to overcome these interoperability challenges, improve patient-centered communication and manage their patient population’s health, leading to smarter spending, better care, healthier people – and more satisfied and better-supported clinicians.
